It's no longer death row; New Jersey eliminated the death penalty.

Around 1960, there may have been an elevator to take you to the top. Since that time the neighborhood became slum-like and visitors would pass through this area without stopping (except for traffic lights, of course). The monument was visible, however, from a passing car. Since the 2000's, the neighborhood has been undergoing urban renovation and is much improved, though still not a tourist attraction.

Very large, public high school with about 3,000 students (of which 97% are Black and/or Latino). Constantly one of the worst high schools in the state as measured by things such as student standardized test scores, dropout rates, suspension rates, etc. Nevertheless, I love my alma mater and a lot of the people that I went through it with due to the sense of struggle and "do for self" attitude that it inspired in us. Also, unlike many people think, you CAN walk the halls and not get beat up and you CAN graduate from Trenton High and go to ANY college you want. Additionally, many of the teachers and administrators do care about student achievement and safety. Yeah, Class of 2003!!!

Now it's a shopping center. The Chinese food at the Kam Buffet there is EXCELLENT. I've been to Chinese buffets in place from Ohio to Mississippi though I this is by far the best one I've ever gone to. They also have things such as a Radio Shack, a dollar store, a liquor store, a clothing store (or two I believe), a restaurant, a barber shop/stylist, a laundromat, a hair products store, and more. The centerpiece, however, was once a supermarket though it shutdown in 2004 or 2005. There are attempts to bring in another supermarket chain there soon.

The Titans are a pretty good sports team. They won the championship for their league in 2005 which was followed by a parade in Trenton, as is customary in pro/semi-pro sports. A lot of events are held here every year and it is considered one of the most popular arenas in the world due to the frequency of events it hosts from professional wrestling to Disney on Ice to high school basketball tournaments and much, much more (including Trenton High's massive graduation ceremony...yeah, TCHS!!!). However, most of the people who go to the Sovereign Bank Arena are from outside of Trenton and still harbor fears of coming to the city. This is in large part the reason why both this arena and Waterfront Park (just a few minutes away) are both easily accessible from the highway (so that people can enter and leave Trenton ASAP) and are labelled with "Mercer County" as oppose to "Trenton" due to the negative association people have with Trenton. The Trenton Police Department precinct for South Trenton is located directly across S. Broad St. in case they are needed. The arena (along with fellow its South Trenton facility of Waterfront Park) has had an adverse impact on South Trenton in terms of "redevelopment" efforts. There have been attempts by private developers to purchase large sections of South Trenton (two blocks long by two blocks wide) to construct new housing, commercial and community space. Although it may seem like a positive thing at face value, many of the residents would be displaced immediately and others would be displaced down the line as the cost of living (including rent, food, clothing stores, etc.) in the community would increase to cater to its newer, probably wealthier (and Whiter) population. So far, efforts to begin this "gentrification" process have proven unsuccessful by developers eager to purchase the sought after areas of South Trenton in close proximity to downtown Trenton, the Sovereign Bank Arena, and Waterfront Park.

Maximum security "correctional" facility in the middle of a diverse, working-class neighborhood. Bordered by Second St., Federal St., Route 129, and Cass St. Guard towers twenty feet high with barbed wire and heavily armed personnel are stationed at regular interval around the perimeter of the prison.

Is one of the few popular nightspots in Trenton that has been opened consistently for a number of years. It's right on the Delaware River and is also a popular after-work spot for the city's many state government employees.
